Today in Sports History: March 28

Today marks the first anniversary of Mitch Marner (Frameworth Exclusive) becoming the fastest Toronto Maple Leaf in franchise history to record 300 assists (411 games), surpassing the previous mark of 469 games set by Borje Salming. With Marner's 300th assist, he became the 15th player in Toronto Maple Leafs franchise history to reach this milestone.  Marner's 300th assist helped the Leafs to a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers.

In addition, today also marks the 42nd anniversary of Darryl Sittler's 500th National Hockey League (NHL) assist. On March 28th 1981, Sittler potted four assists vs the Calgary Flames, helping the Maple Leafs dominate in a 9-5 win. With Terry Martin's early goal in the third period, Sittler officially reached the 500th career assists milestone.
