On this day 40 years ago, future Hall of Famer Darryl Sittler recorded his 1,000th career point in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. His goal in the second period of a 5-2 Flyers win over the Calgary Flames earned him recognition as the second player to record their 1000th point as a Flyer and he became just the 17th player in NHL history to record 1000th NHL points.
Toronto Maple Leafs (1970-82)
Prior to joining the Flyers, Sittler laced up his skates 844 times for the Toronto Maple Leafs over 12 seasons. During this period, Sittler recorded 389 goals and 527 assists, producing a grand total of 914 points in Toronto. In addition, not only did Sittler participate in three All-Star seasons, but he made ten trips to the playoffs with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Philadelphia Flyers (1981-84)
Sittler would spend the better part of three seasons with the Flyers, averaging close to a point per game. Over the course of 191 games for the Flyers, Sittler recorded 84 goals and 94 assists.

Detroit Red Wings (1984-85)
After his run with the Flyers, Sittler would skate for one more season in the NHL and finished his career with the Detroit Red Wings at the age of 35. Over 61 games, Sittler produced 11 goals and 16 assists.

Post NHL Career
In 1989, Darryl Sittler was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and in 1998 he was ranked by the Sporting News at the 93rd Greatest Hockey Player of the 20th Century.
