Frameworth Private Signing (01.06.22)

On Wed. June 1, we had the pleasure of hosting a private signing with Frameworth Exclusive and Blue Jays star, Alek Manoah.

After providing Mr. Manoah a tour of our state-of-the-art facility, he sat down to sign the latest batch of our new products - including 8x10 photos and 16x20 canvases. This will be the first time ever these products will be available (MORE DETAILS COMING SOON).

During the signing, Alek was very laid back and more than happy to chat with Frameworth Staff. Manoah's welcoming demeanour allowed us to ask him some basic questions about his memorabilia and signing experiences. See below for our mini question and answer with Alek.

Q1: Do you remember the first time you were asked for your signature?

    • A: Yes, I was in high school at the time playing in the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game (a showcase for the top high schoolers) and we were asked to sign a bunch of baseball cards.

Q2: What was the longest signing session you ever attended?

    • A: It was shortly before my MLB debut. I spent like two days at a Starbucks signing hundreds of cards.

Q3: What is your favourite piece of memorabilia to sign?

    • A: My favourite thing to sign would be jersey numbers because they are the easiest.

Q4: Do you own any memorabilia yourself?

    • A: Yes, I have my first ever professional cleats, glove and a few other pieces tucked away.

Q5: If you could own any piece of memorabilia, what and/or who would it be?

Q6: Do you have any goals for this season, and if so, what would they be?

    • A: *without hesitation* Bringing the World Series Championship to Toronto and winning.

Blue Jays vs White Sox (02.06.22)

The following day, Manoah received a loud standing ovation inside the Rogers Centre after pitching deep into the eighth inning of an 8-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. He struck out five, allowed six hits, three earned runs, and a walk to improve to 6-1.

It was Manoah’s 10th start of the season, and just his 30th since his major-league debut slightly more than a year ago. Manoah helped the Jays extend their winning streak to eight games and kept his own stretch alive, too – he’s now 9-0 with a 2.12 earned-run average in career home starts.

A Look at Manoah's Rise to the Major Leagues

In his first two years of playing high school baseball, Alek Manoah was a catcher and first baseman. It wasn't until his junior year (grade 11) at South Dale High School in Homestead, Fla. that he began pitching on occasion.

Following, Manoah went the college route after high school, attending West Virginia University. In his junior year (third year), Alek was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 2.08 ERA over 108 1/3 innings pitched with 144 strikeouts and 27 walks. Understandably, Manoah was considered one of the top 2019 MLB draft pitching prospects.

Then in June, Alek was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft. The Blue Jays were impressed with his 6ft 6in, 260-pound frame and 95-97 MPH-range fastball. The scouts liked his physical build, with some suggesting that his physique keeps his velocity going into the late innings of a game.

Less than two years later, the day Alek has always dreamt of finally arrived. On May 27, 2021 he laced up his shoes and took to the mound for his MLB debut against the New York Yankees, winning his first MLB game that same day. Of Manaoh's 88 pitches, 60 went for strikes, and he also registered first-pitch strikes to 15 of the 22 batters he faced. He leaned primarily on his mid-90s fastballs and also went to his changeup on occasion. Here's a look at some of Manoah's leading offerings from his MLB debut:

He finished the 2021 season with a 9-2 record and an ERA of 3.22. Over 111 2/3 innings in 20 starts, he had 127 strikeouts. He also set the franchise record for seven consecutive strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Manoah has entered this 2021-22 MLB season with the ambitious, yet attainable goal to win a World Series. After Alek's last start on June 2, the Blue Jays are now 23-7 with his starts. Manoah’s major league career began just a little over one year ago, but there is still so much to come. His next start will likely come in the middle of next week in Kansas City.
