This overhead shot of Wayne Gretzky skating on the outdoor ice was taken at the 2003 Heritage Classic Mega Stars game on November 22, 2003. This image of Wayne skating on the outdoor rink before the game brings his life full circle from the days when he skated on the backyard rink his father Walter built him.
The Mega Stars game was played between some of the best former players from both clubs competing in that years Heritage Classic game, the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers was mainly represented by the best players from their 1980s dynasty, led by Wayne Gretzky while the Montreal Canadiens were mainly represented by their 1970s dynasty, led by Guy Lafleur.
