On May 10, 1970, Bobby Orr scored one of the most iconic goals in National Hockey League history.
Just 40 seconds into overtime of the 1970 Stanley Cup Final, Bobby Orr scored “The Goal” giving the Bruins a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. This historical goal ended Boston’s 29-year Stanley Cup drought and became one of the most well-known goals scored in all of hockey. With Bobby’s body flying high through the air, the silhouette of him celebrating has become part of his record-breaking legacy. As the only NHL defensemen to have nine hat tricks in his career, Bobby Orr set the single season record in 1970-71 for the most assists (102), points (139) and rating (plus 124) by a blueliner.
